How to Make an ISR PosterPOSTERS: Posters for ISR events, such as the annual ISR Research Forum, can be made in many ways. Typical ways include:
In this first three options above, the poster can be printed onto poster board, or on paper which is laminated - this can be rolled up which is good for long distance transportation. If your poster will be an enlarged version of the ISR Research Flyer for that project, there are sample ISR research project flyer files on the ISR Website (http://www.isr.uci.edu/flyers/src/) that you may use as guides to make your own. They are also available via the flyer style guide page. Many, but not all, of these samples are in Adobe Illustrator. ISR LOGO: Please include the ISR logo on your poster. Contact Debi Brodbeck (brodbeck@ics.uci.edu) in this regard. You can include other logos as you desire. FILES: We recommend that your files be built to final size for production. Posters are typically 24″ x 36″. The Engineering Copy Center (ECC) requires PDF. Note that you must fill out a “Large Format Poster Request Form” which has useful information. Kinko’s strongly prefers PDF. Be sure to embed all fonts and images. Be sure to use CMYK colors (not RGB). If you’re a PC user, you can download Kinko’s File Prep Tool (KFP) Software to keep all of your margins, formatting, fonts and graphics intact for reliable printing. Download is free. (PC users who have not done this in the past have had unexpected results.) If you’re a Mac user, give ECC/Kinko’s print quality PDF. General file preparation info from Kinko’s is available. Files can be given to Kinko’s via the web (Kinkonet), email, or burned CD (hand deliver). The ECC and Kinko’s typically take about 3 days to produce posters. PAYMENT: Make arrangements with your advisor in advance regarding payment for the poster. ISR does not pay for poster production. EXAMPLES: ISR typically has some old posters that you can look to get an idea of what others have done before. Contact Debi Brodbeck (brodbeck@ics.uci.edu) if you would like to look at them. |
